Discover 1000 years of history in and around Great Linford Manor Park. Join informative walks, enjoy tea and cake in historic St. Andrew’s Church, and watch illustrated talks about the history of the village and its 17th-century almshouses.

The recently restored Great Linford Manor Park is home to some of the most historic buildings and landscapes within the modern city of Milton Keynes. Join knowledgeable guides on walks around the scenic Georgian manor park gardens and learn about the people and events that shaped this historic landscape. Visit St. Andrew’s Church, enjoy refreshments and listen to two illustrated talks about the history of the village. You can also meet the village lacemakers, and there will be colouring for children.

Friday 11th September:

History walk only, 1030-1200, accompanied by a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.

Saturday 12th September:

History walk: 1100 – 1230

Church opens at 1200.

Talk: (St. Andrew’s Church) 1300 – 1345. Centuries of Care: Great Linford’s Almshouses and their people.

The almshouses within Great Linford Manor Park were paid for by the Lord of the Manor, Sir William Pritchard, and constructed circa 1698. This talk will explain the origins and development of the almshouses, introducing you to some of the residents who called them home over the centuries and provide insights into their daily lives.

History walk: 1400-1530.

Talk: (St. Andrew’s Church) 1545-1645. A brief history of Great Linford.

Packed with historic images, this talk will introduce you to some of the Lords of the Manor and our most famous resident, the astrological doctor, the Reverend Richard Napier, but you’ll also meet some of the everyday folk of the village.
