Great Meeting Unitarian Chapel, East Bond Street, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE1 4SX

  • Multiple dates available
  • | In person

An inner-city gem: a 1708 chapel, Leicester's oldest complete brick building, with unique octagonal ceiling, innovative roof structure and woodland garden.

Enjoy guided tours of the Grade II Chapel, garden and medieval boundary wall. (Or just come in for a self guided visit). Admire the peaceful 'time-capsule' interior with many fascinating architectural features and excellent acoustics. Learn entertaining anecdotes about the people associated with the chapel in the past, its links to the 'Radical Leicester' movement, its early social work in the Victorian slums, and its connections to the anti-slavery movement. Children can participate in a special trail. Check out the tombstones with interesting inscriptions, and inspect the medieval boundary wall. Be astonished by our recent acquisition from a neighbouring chapel - a magnificent oil on wood coat of arms.
On Saturday September 12th join us for afternoon tea from 2pm -4.30 pm with home made cakes, live jazz band and tombola.
