  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Walk a short way along the Pennine Way to visit a medieval moated site and wonder at its position in the landscape..

Just off the Pennine Way and a short walk from Alston is an earthwork, a medieval moated site. There is evidence of enclosures, building platforms, trackways, and a fish pond. Possibly associated with the deer park licensed by Robert de Veteripont, Lord of the Manor of Alston Moor in 1337, the earthwork is disappearing into the River South Tyne. Come and see it while you can.

Access has been granted for this walk by the landowner.
