Popularly known as the King of Holderness, St. Augustine’s is believed to date from 1180

Popularly known as the King of Holderness, St. Augustine’s is believed to date from 1180 during the reign of Henry II.
The church was built by the ‘pious liberality’ of the merchant burgesses of Hedon giving thanks to God for the prosperity of their town and port. The tower was added in 1437, 250 years after the foundation stone was laid.
The church records will be available for viewing in a Family History session and strawberry teas will also be available on the afternoons of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th. Tours of the church and surroundings have also been arranged during HODs on 12, 13, 1§, 20 September
