Hedon Town Hall
Hedon Town Council, 36 St. Augustines Gate, Hedon, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU12 8EX
Hedon Town Hall was built in 1693 on the orders of Henry Guy, one of the town’s two MP’s.
Above its entrance can be seen Guy’s impressive coat of arms, sitting above the more modest ship’s crest of Hedon Borough. Through the left-hand front window can be seen iron bars of the former jail. The rooms to the right-hand side, now used as council offices, were once the lodgings of the Sergeant-at-Mace and his family.
On the first floor is the Mayor’s Parlour, the meeting room of the Aldermen, and the larger courtroom with its raised dais where the mayor and bailiffs dispensed justice. There will be a display of items of the Hedon’s silver along with a film show. Councillors will be on hand for discussions.
