Explore Hemyock Castle & bygone rural life from the comfort of your home through specially created videos for the Heritage Open Days festival.

Hemyock Castle dates from 1380, fortifying an older manor house. It was slighted (destroyed) during the English Civil War period in the 1640s, after two brutal sieges. Some buildings were later adapted for farm or residential use, but most of the ruins were not restored by later owners; a rare survival showing some original castle defences.

A large part of the Eastern gatehouse archway remains, together with parts of some towers, curtain-walls and moat. See also the Interpretation Centre, ancient cider-press, pottery sherd displays and farmyard displays. The manor house and some other buildings are private homes; closed to visitors.

Through our YouTube playlist you will be able to explore the following:
- Towers, Walls and Moat: See much of the castle site, remains of the gatehouse, towers, walls and moat
- The Interpretation Centre, with its life-sized tableau & stories
- Rarely seen historic features inside the manor house
- Hidden Nature of this oasis in the heart of Hemyock
- Castle Farm Cider making, including large 19C wooden apple-mill & 18C cider-press
