Open Day at All Saints Oakham
All Saints Church, Church Street, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6AA
Event from 10.00 to 5.00 on September 12th with four exhibition displays
1. Royal Rutland - the story of Queen edith, the last Anglo-Saxon queen.
2. A sermon in stone - photographs and descriptions of the renowned nave arcade capitals in the church, dating from the 12th century.
3. Writings on the Wall - a slide loop presentation looking at the stories behind some of the memorials in the church.
4. The Harington bequest and the Oakham Parish Library - the bequest of Lady Anne Harington in 1615 of around 80 books, which are now held by the University of Nottingham. This is a new exhibition opening on the Heritage Open Day (September 12th) in conjunction with the East Midlands Parish Library project led by the University of Nottingham.
10.00 to 12.00 Pop up Cafe offering refreshments, with activities for children and families
11.00 Church tour, looking at how this 12th century church has been used and developed over its history and how it is used today
