Discover the world’s oldest mechanised paper mill, still making artisan papers in the heart of Hertfordshire. Explore our unique heritage site, where paper has been made since 1774 and the first paper machine was installed in 1803.

At Frogmore Paper Mill, we celebrate the huge contribution that paper has played in shaping the world in which we live today. This stretch of the River Gade was chosen by the Fourdriniers, The British Paper Company, and John Dickinson, to establish businesses that would change the locality and have international impact. For paper, this is where the Industrial Revolution began.
Frogmore is still a working paper mill. After the 2022 fire, some areas are still under repair, but our historic machines and many of the buildings can be seen with a guide.
