The National Centre for Writing is opening the doors of our historic building for a day of lightning talks designed to illuminate Dragon Hall’s history and place in the stories of Norwich’s trade and industries.

10.30-11.15AM Norwich Breweries: 'Beer is Best, it gives life zest, Norwich brewers led the rest’
Frances and Michael Holmes from Norwich Heritage Projects tell the story of the rise, fall and renaissance of the city’s brewing heritage, together with tales of those who worked there.

12-12.45PM Norwich: The city seen through its buildings with Pete Goodrum
Join us for a fascinating, insider look at Norwich’s architectural treasures and the vibrant history behind them.

1.30-2.15PM History as a Living Topic with Stuart Hobday
A exploration of the idea of presenting history as a living topic in order to bring stories and places of the past alive to us all.

3-4PM Journeys: Global Textiles from the Karun Thakar Collection at Blickling Hall
Join National Trust Senior National Curator Emma Slocombe and Rebecca Feakes, Property Librarian at Blickling, for an illuminating talk exploring the ideas and histories behind the new exhibition Journeys: Global Textiles from the Karun Thakar Collection at Blickling Hall.


Our Dragon Hall Heritage Volunteer Group will be present throughout the day to answer questions on the history of Dragon Hall, and to share with visitors details of their group and the study, research and activities they undertake.

Accessibility details

The public entrance into Dragon Hall is located on King Street opposite the Butterfly Café. There is one step into the building. If you require step-free access, please come to the St Ann Lane Ramp Entrance. This can be accessed by turning right from King Street onto St Ann Lane. On arrival at our ramp entrance, call the videophone and you will be met by a member of staff.
