Enjoy a fantastic free day out with family and friends at The Bowes Museum and celebrate England’s largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days. There are exhibitions to discover, 22 galleries and a large parkland to explore.

Celebrate Heritage Open Days with free admission to The Bowes Museum and a packed programme of activities inspired by this year's theme, Everyday Histories.

Enjoy guided tours, including rare behind-the-scenes access to the museum's vaults, hands-on artist maker workshops, interactive object handling sessions and a self-led trail created by the museum's Young Volunteers.

Discover Norman Cornish: A Life in Sketchbooks, explore the artist's depictions of life in the Durham coalfield and have a go at sketching your own creations at the Cornish Sketchbook station. Visitors can also see the famous Silver Swan in action, enjoy refreshments in Café Bowes and browse the museum shop. With free entry for all ages, it's the perfect opportunity to experience England's largest festival of history and culture.
