Maison Dieu, High Street, Dover, Kent, CT16 1DL

Inspired by the historical splendour of Maison Dieu, this taster blackwork and cross-stitch workshop offers a small slice of sewing bliss from the utter novice to the talented textiler using the rich range of decorative motifs throughout the building

Workshop leaders will demonstrate the basic cross stitch technique, enabling participants to complete a small embroidery featuring selected motifs of Maison Dieu decoration. This would be for inexperienced embroiderers.

Anyone with more advanced skills would be at liberty to pursue their own stitching using cross stitch or black work from a repertoire of designs based on Maison Dieu motifs.

Materials would mostly be prepared in readiness for participants to use e.g. stretched Aïda fabric with a pre-drawn design, cut and separated threads etc. The intention would be to equip each participant with a full “kit” they could take away with them to complete.

Clients: adult (18+), although children could attend with a participant

Skill level: focussed on beginners, but all levels welcome.
