Enjoy a leisurely tour of the Masonic Temple and learn all about the fixtures and fittings and their relevance to Freemasonry in Howden. Freemasonry came to Howden in 1854 and in 1858 permission was granted to hold its meetings on the Thursday on or before the full moon, a tradition which continues to this day.
The Lodge is a unique members' organisation which has thrived for over three hundred years. We have no political or religious affiliations and comprise of members of all ages, race, religious and cultural backgrounds. The Lodge follows ceremonial traditions which encourage its members to be more tolerant and respectful and actively fulfil our civic and charitable responsibilities. Your guide will explain some of the regalia on display in and around the Temple as well as the role the lodge plays in the thriving market town of Howden. After a look round the Temple upstairs, why not stay and enjoy a cup of tea and refreshment which will be available downstairs in the dining room.
