Illuminated River Walk: An Everyday History of London’s Bridges
South Bank Lion on the south side of Westminster Bridge, The Queen's Walk, London, City of London, SE1 7GA
Led by award-winning Blue Badge Guide and Look Up London founder Katie Wignall, this guided walk reveals little-known facts and surprising tales along the river. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into how these historic crossings have evolved over time and the role they still play in the life of the city today.
Spanning 3.2 miles along the Thames, Illuminated River is the world’s longest public art commission. The artwork unites nine central London bridges in a single, subtly shifting lighting scheme, created by artist Leo Villareal, inspired by the river itself and designed to highlight the bridges’ architecture and heritage.
Meeting point: South Bank Lion on the south side of Westminster Bridge. The tour will last approximately 75 minutes.
