Join us for a walk in the footsteps of famed Borough Engineer Harry W Smith who transformed South Cliff Gardens from a playground for the wealthy into a treasured community space.

South Cliff Gardens architectural journey from private playground for the wealthy to treasured public asset was made possible by the vision of one man, celebrated Borough Engineer Harry W Smith.

Discover more about his work to unify the gardens and the other prominent visionaries whose influence is still felt today. Explore the unique architectural features they added and the new structures built as part of the recently completed renovations in response to the needs of modern users. Hear more about the ongoing work to maintain the space for present and future generations.

We will start and finish at the most recent addition to the gardens Beeforth’s Hive, where at the end of the tour there will also be a chance to view some pictures from the gardens' past and learn more about the restoration over complimentary refreshments.

Directions:
The tour starts at Beeforth's Hive which is located just off the Esplanade behind the Rose Garden. There is free on street parking on the Esplanade, some zones require a parking disk, check on street instructions.
