In the Works - A History of Warrington Through Works Magazines

Works Magazines, in-house magazines, or staff newsletters. Whatever you want to call them, they can offer a wealth of information about the ordinary working lives of Warrington people.

Not only do they show the processes that made up our ancestors’ work-lives, they can also be a rich source of genealogical information. New employees, marriages, promotions, long service records, and retirements can all be listed. You may even find that your ancestor was a member of the company sports club, amateur dramatic group, or musical society.

Works magazines can even be a way to find that illusive photograph of a relative, often showing the staff of various departments at work or play.

Warrington Archives have a good selection of works magazines for a variety of companies, including the likes of The “Crosfield Chronicle”, Rylands Brothers’ “Live Wire”, or Burtonwood Brewery’s “Top Hat”.
