Jarrow Hall has something for everyone! Visit our Bede Museum to learn about the story of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria and the life of one of its most important figures, Bede. Head out onto our farm to meet our animal residents and visit our demonstration Anglo-Saxon village, Gyrwe, to learn more about the lives of the Anglo-Saxons.
This Heritage Open Day, dive into our activities and events. Speak to some of our staff and volunteers to discover more about the daily lives of people in the Anglo-Saxon period and their skills, still preserved today by people like our volunteers. You can even try some yourself! Learn more about how the monks spent their days and their many skills and jobs. You may even hear our Gregorian choir signalling when the monks would have gone to prayer.
Attend a leatherworking workshop by our In-House Artist, who demonstrates some of the traditional skills you may have seen in the Anglo-Saxon period.
Handle some of our objects to learn more about the lives of people in our more recent local history. See our spotlight display, showing some of the objects found during our excavations last summer, along with some memories from local people of life in Jarrow in its more recent history.
Little ones can take part in a trail to learn more about different jobs in the Anglo-Saxon period. If they don’t fancy that, they can do crafts, play in our Minecraft reconstruction of our Anglo-Saxon village, and so much more!
