Joseph Banks Exhibition Launch at Navigation House

Sir Joseph Banks was a famous naturalist, botanist, and patron of the natural sciences. He is most famous for his place on the 1766 natural-history expedition to Newfoundland and Labrador, on the HMS Endeavour with Captain James Cook. However many people don't realise that he was a Lincolnshire man, raised at his father's nearby estate in Revesby. Even fewer know that Banks was a keen supporter of the Navigation projects, so much so that he played an integral part in the establishment of the Sleaford Navigation Company, and left his mark on Navigation House.
Our new exhibition will be launching for Heritage Open Days, exploring the life and impact of Sir Joseph Banks. For the Heritage Open Days Festival, we will be offering a special family trail and activities for visitors to learn about the man and the role he played both locally and nationally.

From the street to the wheelchair entrance, there is a shallow ramp to the side door: • The ramp is 990mm wide, 1200mm long with a rise of approximately 1:6. There is level access from the wheelchair entrance to: • The Visitor Information area, Weighing Room, Shop and Clerk's Office Access to the first floor is by a wooden staircase with handrails on both sides Public toilet • There is a no toilet in Navigation House. • There is an Accessible toilet in the National Centre for Craft & Design less than 1 minutes’ walk away Accessibility equipment • We welcome assistance dogs
Additional information
There is no parking at the attraction, however there is a car park on Eastgate with spaces for blue badge holders. The car park is a 2 minute walk from Navigation House. The surface from the car park to the entrance of the attraction is a mix of tarmac and block paving. The car park has lighting. There is lighting all the way to Navigation House.
