Keeping Berwick Healthy - guided walk
Bridge End, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, TD15 1HA
Led by volunteers from the "Femmer to Firmer" Project which was run by Museums Northumberland in 2024, this walk focusses on the history of Healthcare in Berwick over the past 800 years. This is a chance to see and hear about some of Berwick’s buildings from a new perspective, and keep healthy too!
The guided walk starts with Maison Dieu , a medieval religious hospital and wends it way around the historic centre of Berwick stopping at buildings that hide their medical past and takes us right up to today as it passes the site of Berwick's new state-of-the-art, hospital now under construction. The walk finishes back down on the riverside where we find out more about the old Castle Hills Maternity Hospital fondly remembered by many of Berwick’s current residents.
