Keith Murray: Wedgwood Architect and Designer
V&A Wedgwood Collection, Wedgwood Drive, Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST12 9ER
Keith Murray was born in New Zealand in 1891, moving to England in 1906. While he originally trained as an architect, he was initially unable to find work in the field. He instead turned his attention to the design of silver, ceramics and glass – and it was through this that he was first introduced to the Wedgwood Company in 1933. His bold designs soon found great popularity among consumers.
When the Wedgwood family announced their proposed move from Etruria to Barlaston, it was Keith Murray who began work on designing their new state-of-the-art factory.
Join us as our team explore the life and work of Keith Murray at Wedgwood as part of a special celebration of this year's Heritage Open Day's theme of Architecture. A lecture and opportunity to get up close with items from our collections and archives.
