Step inside Kingswood Abbey Gatehouse, the only surviving building of the once important Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century.

This impressive late medieval gatehouse, built in the early 16th century, was one of the last monastic structures constructed in England before the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538.

During this special Heritage Open Days, visitors can explore the historic interior and discover the story of the abbey that once stood at the heart of Kingswood village. Admire the gatehouse's striking architectural features, including its richly carved stonework, decorative sculptures and impressive window above the main arch.

Learn about the role of the gatehouse as the main entrance to the monastery and its connection to the local community over the centuries. Today, this Grade I listed building remains an important landmark and a rare survivor of Gloucestershire's monastic heritage.
