Lamb House

Explore Lamb House, a Georgian Mayor's residence turned artist retreat. Learn all about the lives of Henry James and EF Benson, and hear some of their famous stories including Benson's famed Mapp and Lucia.

Upstairs visit our exhibition Captured by Caricature. It features a selection of Max Beerbohm's caricatures of Henry James as well as sketches by William Rothenstein and John Singer Sargent from the collection.

Explore the largest private garden in Rye, enjoying the vegetable patches and flower gardens. We encourage you to bring a picnic and enjoy the tranquillity throughout the afternoon.

Accessibility details

There are three steps to the entrance of the building. The ground floor has steps and small rooms. There are two flights of stairs to the first floor. The grounds are partially accessible but please be wary of steps and uneven, narrow gravel paths.

Additional information

You can travel to Lamb House by train via Rye Station. There is no car parking at the property, but multiple public car parks around the town.
