Behind the Scenes at Lancashire Conservation Studios

Step behind the scenes with experts from the Lancashire Conservation Studios and discover Lancashire's hidden heritage. Housed within a beautifully converted Victorian church, the studios provide a unique setting where historic objects are conserved, researched and prepared for display.
Join our team for a fascinating guided tour and learn how we care for Lancashire's heritage. See conservation projects currently in progress and discover the specialist skills involved in treating easel paintings, museum objects and natural history collections. You'll also have the opportunity to explore our technical and exhibition design work and find out how exhibitions are developed to bring heritage stories to life.

Visitors are also welcome to explore the surrounding grounds and historic graveyard, where recent conservation work has uncovered and revealed many gravestones, shedding light on the stories of local families and the area's past.

Arrive at any point during opening times - no booking required. Tours last approximately 30 minutes and take place throughout the day.

Directions:
By Car - From the M6 junction 31- Travel into Preston down New Hall Lane and turn right at the T junction onto the A6. Either turn right across the traffic into the Museum Of Lancashire site and follow the pink signs or turn right at the traffic lights into Ribbleton Lane. Turn right immediately after Preston Prison into St Mary's Street and the Conservation Studios is half way along the street on the right. Parking is through the black gates.. By Bus / foot - Walk down Church Street passed the Parish Church toward ringway. Cross the road and enter the site via the Museum of Lancashire entrance off London road and adjacent to the Victorian entrance to Preston prison. There will be pink Heritage Open Day Bunting at both entrances

Accessibility details

The paths around the church are a mix of tarmac and gravel so may not all be suitable for wheelchair access. The hearing loop is limited to certain areas of the site but those leading the tours are experienced in public speaking. If you have any questions, please e-mail [email protected]
