How would you fare as a female prisoner in our gaol? Our Matron will certainly put you to the test! Once you’re in her care, she will put you to work in the gaol’s laundry.

How would you fare as a female prisoner in our gaol?

Our Matron will certainly put you to the test! Once you’re in her care, she will put you to work in the gaol’s laundry.

That’s right, no rest for the wicked! The female convicts in our gaol are responsible for keeping not only the prisoners’ uniforms washed, but the Gaoler’s, his wife’s, and their children. This would include undergarments, sheets, and towels.

This Heritage Open Day, join our Matron to learn more about what gaol life looked like for Georgian female prisoners.
