Leeds Kirkgate Market V Halifax Borough Market
Kirkgate Market, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 7HL
This double-dale day (Airedale and Calderdale) comprises a tour of Kirkgate Market, Leeds, followed by a tour in and around Halifax Borough Market. When Leeds needed a new market hall at the turn of the 20th century, the councillors turned for inspiration to Halifax Borough Market, and to its architects, the brothers John & Joseph Leeming. They are stunning examples of late 19th, early 20th century market halls, and still centres of their communities.
This a one-off, double-bill tour for Heritage Open Days, lasting approximately 3.5 hours.
