Leeds Kirkgate Market V Halifax Borough Market

Kirkgate Market, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 7HL

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A chance to compare Leeds Kirkgate 1904 Hall with, it's inspiration, Halifax Borough Market.

This double-dale day (Airedale and Calderdale) comprises a tour of Kirkgate Market, Leeds, followed by a tour in and around Halifax Borough Market. When Leeds needed a new market hall at the turn of the 20th century, the councillors turned for inspiration to Halifax Borough Market, and to its architects, the brothers John & Joseph Leeming. They are stunning examples of late 19th, early 20th century market halls, and still centres of their communities.

This a one-off, double-bill tour for Heritage Open Days, lasting approximately 3.5 hours.

0930 start Leeds Kirkgate Market Tour (meet by the M&S Clock) to 1030. Then make your way to Halifax.
1200 Halifax Train Station (reconvene at the entrance) to 1300.

The market tours are free. Make your own way to Halifax. There's no food involved but you could arrive early at Leeds Kirkgate Market for breakfast, and stay for lunch at Halifax Borough Market.
