“Let’s Just Do It...” A Comedy Performance About the Everyday Life of Volunteers
Church of Christ the Cornerstone, 300 Saxon Gate, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK9 2ES
“Let’s Just Do It...” is a comedy theatre performance exploring the everyday realities of volunteering through humour, chaos and deeply recognisable human situations.
Inspired by real experiences, observations and inside jokes from volunteer environments, the performance presents a lively and relatable look at the invisible labour behind community events, support networks and cultural projects. Through comedy, improvisation and absurd everyday situations, the play explores what happens when “simple tasks” become unexpectedly complicated and volunteers continue solving problems despite exhaustion, last-minute changes and constant unpredictability.
The performance reflects on responsibility, teamwork, emotional resilience and the quiet determination of ordinary people who help hold communities together behind the scenes. While humorous and light in tone, the project also highlights the emotional reality of voluntary work - the stress, care, adaptability and mutual support that often remain unseen by wider audiences. The performance responds to the national theme “Everyday Histories” and recognises volunteering as an important part of contemporary social heritage and community memory.
Texts, music choices and stage direction are by Yaroslava Demutska. The performance is a creative idea by Viktoriya Shtanko. The project is being developed in collaboration with the active assistance of members of the Ukrainian community - Ukraine Appeal volunteers.
