Uncover the story of Shildon, the world’s first railway town, and hear fascinating stories of some of the people who lived and worked here.
Join our knowledgeable volunteers for guided walks across our historic site, where Shildon’s remarkable railway buildings bring the past to life.

Explore inside Kilburn Warehouse, the oldest surviving industrial building in Shildon, now home to the iconic locomotive Nelson.

Go behind the scenes in our workshop, where traditional skills are kept alive today, and see our restoration projects up close (visitors aged 18+ only).

Watch our skilled conservators demonstrate some traditional painting techniques.

Then get creative with a fun art activity, suitable for all the family.
