Little Chicago - Heritage and History walk

48 West Bar, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S3 8PH

  • 19 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

A guided historical/pub walk in Little Chicago, Sheffield.

Following the success of the previous guided walks, Heritage Open days 2025 will include a guided historical walk in Sheffield's Little Chicago Quarter. We will explore both the pub heritage aspects of the area plus the streets which feature in the book, ‘Sheffield 1925: Gang Wars and Wembley Glory,’ with a narrative explaining how Sheffield briefly became the most turbulent city in Britain because of an escalating gang war involving the Park Brigade, Mooney Gang, the Gas Tank Gang and many others.

The short walk (one and a half hours, including one stop) will also explore the beer, social and Industrial heritage of the area, examining the myths and reality of a tumultuous year in Sheffield history, before finishing at the Kelham Island Tavern.

The walk will be led by ‘Sheffield’s Real Heritage Pubs’ editor, Dave Pickersgill and local historian and writer, John Stocks.

Meet 1430 outside the Sheffield Combined Court Centre, West Bar, S3 8BH

Alongside the walk, copies of the ‘ Sheffield 1925’ book will be available at a reduced price of £10.00 as well as copies of the ‘Little Chicago’ walk booklet - £2.99 (Cash only)
