Explore this ancient place with guided tours giving insight on everyday lives through time. Learn of the worship and community at this site over generations back to pre-Norman. Anne Brontë wrote of life here in the 1840s.

This ancient grade 1 church, in a lovely peaceful setting, has many interesting features which will be explained in guided tours. The church is Norman, built on the site of a previous Anglo-Saxon church. Come and learn how the church and community here has adapted to changes from the Norman invasion, through the Reformation, and into Victorian and modern times.

The Thompson Mausoleum, built c. 1750, will also be open within the churchyard with information on its purpose and design for the Thompson family. Other members of this family are interred in the churchyard with beautiful memorial headstones and information on their military and local political service.

Anne and Branwell Brontë lived in this parish in the 1840s as governess and tutor respectively for the Robinson family of Thorp Green Hall. Aspects of the local area and community are described in and influenced Anne’s novels and poetry. There are Robinson family memorials inside the church.

Guided tours, informed stewards on hand, and refreshments available.
