Little Ouseburn Church and Mausoleum - our place through time

Come and learn how this church and community has adapted from Anglo Saxon to modern times. We will use the Brontë writings and journal of George Whitehead to focus on the 1840s.
Anne and Branwell Brontë lived in this parish as governess and tutor for the Robinson family of Thorp Green Hall. Engaging talks at 12 noon and 2pm by Kate Page (www.thebrontësisters.co.uk) will cover these topics:
1. From Haworth to Thorp Green: Anne Brontë in a Very Different Yorkshire - Anne Brontë left the hills of Haworth to spend five years as a governess at Thorp Green. We explore the contrasting landscapes, communities and everyday lives she encountered, and how the experience found its way into her poetry and writing.
2. By Foot, Horse and Steam: The Brontës and a Changing World - Discover how the Brontës experienced travel in an age of extraordinary change, from walking and carriage journeys to the new railways, including Branwell's railway career and the family's own connection with the railway industry.
The Thompson Mausoleum, built c. 1750, will also be open within the churchyard with information on its purpose and design for the Thompson family.

Accessibility details
The church is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Disabled parking can be reserved close to the church if you call in advance to arrange this. Toilet facilities are not available at this church but nearby at Great Ouseburn church and local pubs/cafes. Dogs are welcome in the churchyard on leads, but not inside the church or mausoleum.
Additional information
Some parking is available on the road outside the church. If you park in Little Ouseburn or Great Ouseburn, the church is a short walk between the two villages. To reserve a disabled parking space outside the church, please call in advance either John Gawthrope (07854 452002) or Alison Smith (07961 876061). Light refreshments will be available at the church.
