Liverpool & the Few: Battle of Britain at the Old Airport, commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in one of the UK’s most iconic wartime buildings.
This event, co-hosted by Merseyside Polonia, the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester, and the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Manchester, will bring together community leaders, historians, and members of the public to remember the extraordinary contribution of Polish and Czechoslovak pilots to Britain’s defence in 1940.
In the very building that once served as RAF Speke, the programme will feature:
- A drinks reception and curated exhibition on the Battle of Britain and Liverpool’s wartime aviation history
- Presentations on the role of No. 303 (Polish) Squadron, No. 310 and No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadrons, and the unique operational history of Speke Airfield
- Reflections on the enduring importance of this shared European heritage
Following the main programme, guests are invited to an outdoor wartime display showcasing period equipment, vehicles, and re-enactment elements.
