Lowry the Artist - Holidays in Berwick
Berwick Railway Station, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, TD15 1NF
To mark the 50th anniversary of L. S. Lowry’s death in 1976, this guided history walk celebrates and commemorates Lowry’s connection to Berwick as one of his beloved holiday destinations. Beginning with his stays at the Castle Hotel, the route follows part of The Lowry Trail to explore the views and locations that inspired his sketches and paintings of Berwick. Continuing along Bridge Street, the walk will explore the streets Lowry would have walked on and how locals continue to honour his creative legacy today. The walk also explores some of Berwick’s industrial past and how this history may have resonated with Lowry’s home life in Manchester.
