Lyddington Bede House - Open House

Visit and you can explore the bedesmen’s rooms, with their tiny windows and fireplaces. Don’t miss the fine timbered roof, and the bishops’ great chamber on the first floor, with its beautiful carved Tudor cornice. Look out for the ‘audio boxes’ where you can hear letters read by the bedesmen. A bedesman’s and a bedeswoman’s room have been recreated as they appeared in Victorian times.

There is no lift access to the upper floor of the house
New graphic panels; a case displaying a Bible and prayer book used at the Bedehouse; and audio boxes where you can hear letters read by the ‘bedesmen’. Two of the bedeswomen’s rooms are recreated as they may have appeared in late Victorian times. There is a small herb garden, and a walled garden The property is set in a beautiful historic village. The Bede House is next to the church and there is a short pleasant walk to medieval fish ponds (five to ten minutes) through the village.
