Making Prypynda - Traditional Ukrainian Macramé and Textile Adornment Workshop
Church of Christ the Cornerstone, 300 Saxon Gate, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK9 2ES
“Making Prypynda” is a hands-on heritage craft workshop exploring traditional-inspired Ukrainian textile adornments created through macramé and decorative knotting techniques.
The workshop invites visitors to discover the beauty of handmade garment decoration and the role of textile craft within Ukrainian cultural traditions. Participants will learn how to create their own Prypynda - a decorative macramé-style garment piece inspired by traditional folk costume elements, woven ornamentation and handcrafted accessories historically connected to everyday domestic creativity and women’s artistic expression.
Guided by members of the Ukrainian community, visitors will explore knotting methods, textures, patterns and symbolic decorative elements while learning about the historical connection between textile work, clothing and cultural identity. The session highlights how handmade adornments and domestic crafts formed an important part of everyday life, family traditions and intergenerational knowledge sharing.
The workshop creates a welcoming and creative atmosphere where participants can slow down, work with their hands and experience the calming and social nature of traditional craft-making. No previous experience is required and visitors will have the opportunity to create and take home their own decorative textile piece.
Organised by Ukraine Appeal, the event celebrates women’s handmade traditions, domestic creativity and ordinary crafts.
