Making Waves and Corset Creations
Harborough District Council and Harborough Museum, The Symington Building, Adam & Eve Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 7AG
Symington's line of swimwear is celebrated in the making waves project, with real swimsuits on display ranging from the 1930s-1980s. Discover how Symington's factory had a global impact, and spot the local art dotted around Market Harborough to showcase the swimsuits of the recent past. Come and design your own swimsuit inspired by the Symington's fashion and local art! Take part in interactive crafts inspired by the Symington’s corset factory, some sessions with original archive footage being played in the background for those who want to delve deeper into the history of the building and its workers. These are drop-in sessions, so no need to book! Just come along, get crafting and take home your corset creations and swimsuit designs! Display boards will also be up on weekdays and tour days from 10am-3pm.
This event is part of Leicester & Leicestershire New Wave project, inspired and developed by a young heritage co-curator working together with Visit Harborough, Harborough Museum and TwoQuArts.
