Tucked into a dramatic Dorset combe, wander at your own pace through Mapperton’s award-winning Italianate Gardens - uncover hidden corners and soak up the warm colours of September in a setting steeped in heritage. Step into our restored
Kitchen Garden and visit the Conservatory, where we nurture specialist plants.
Designed in the 1920s by Ethel Labouchere, the elegant Fountain Court and surrounding terraces unfold below the croquet lawn, framed by clipped topiary, octagonal pools, grottoes and classical stone statues.
The romantic gilded orangery overlooking the Fountain Court, shelters vines, avocados, begonias, roses and exotic plants. Beyond lies a lower terrace with an early 17th-century summerhouse, spring-fed ponds and the beginning of the wild garden, where Edwardian elegance gives way to the arboretum and woodland walks. Discover magnolias, dawn redwoods, dogwoods, tulip trees and specimen shrubs as the landscape opens into sweeping valley views.
Whether visiting Mapperton Gardens for the first time or returning to view them in a new season, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a day out - free of charge. Visit the Coach House Café for refreshments and dogs are permitted on short leads.

In addition to free entry to Mapperton Gardens, guided House tours can be booked in advance at a cost of £5 per person. A guided rewilding safari/ranger's ramble will also be taking place at 1300hrs (1pm) - a two-hour walk across Mapperton's Wildlands - at a cost of £30 per person.
