Meet the Ouseburn River: Prize Trail

51 Lime Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, NE1 2PQ

  • 14 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Chose from one of three trails -- themed around beer, wildlife, or architectural history -- and solve four clues to discover the name of one of the Ouseburn's famous river creatures! Bring back the name of your creature for a prize.

Explore the hidden histories of the Ouseburn River! A small but mighty river, the Ouseburn was once a hub for industry, both pulling people in with its fresh water supply, transport routes and economic prospects, and pushing them away as disease, flooding and pollution took their toll. When industry declined in the twentieth century, the Ouseburn became a focal point for change, with efforts to restore its ecological health and reconnect people with its natural surroundings. For this special event, investigate some of the threads running through this history -- beer, architecture, or nature -- and follow a clue trail around the lower valley. Solve all of your clues to win a prize!

Come to the Ouseburn Trust's Visitor Centre to collect your trail sheet, choose your theme, and head off! You'll need to solve four clues; the final clue will reveal the name of one of the Ouseburn's famous river animals: bring your animal back to 51 Lime Street to claim your reward. Each trail should take around 20 minutes to complete, with accessible routes throughout.
