Supervised tour of parts of private house and contents including the entrance hall, breakfast room, saloon, square drawing room, dining room and long drawing room. Visits to Melbury Church are also permitted if requested in advance.

An opportunity to experience a tour of historic Melbury House with a knowledgeable guide. This exclusive tour is limited to small groups (max 20). You will be guided around private rooms to view architecture, works of art and antiquities which are not normally seen by the public.

The Gardens will not be open, but the church can be visited (by prior arrangement), and there are walks on the footpaths through the estate.

Please ensure you enter the estate from the A37 entrance. If using Sat Nav to find us please use DT2 0LW instead of the house postcode as that will direct you to a different gate which may not be open. PLEASE NOTE AS OF 3RD JUNE THE 2PM TOUR ON TUESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER IS NOW FULL.

Accessibility details

Parking is available at the front of the house. As the building is historic there are steps and uneven surfaces within the house. If you are booking a visit to the church also, please note there is a gravel drive that leads down to the church which is on a slight slope.

Additional information

When you email to book your place on the tour we will need full names of all guests. We do not issue paper tickets just email confirmation of booking if available. As the event usually fills up very quickly please give at least one alternative day/time for the tours.

This is a 72ft monument to Vice-Admiral Hardy, built in 1844 stands on an exposed location above the village of Portesham, near Dorchester. Climb to the 120 steps to the top of the monument and enjoy breathtaking views across Dorset.
