Middleport Pottery - Search our 1940's Employment record cards

As part of this visit there will be lists available to search through of over 500 employment records, and if you find a record you are interested in seeing, our amazing collection volunteers will search out that record for you to view, and photograph if you wish.

We will also have collection items on display, showing some of the objects the different jobs would have used or produced during this time period, many of which are still used on our factory today!

Maybe a relative worked here during this time period, maybe you want to see what jobs people your age were doing - even if you don't find the exact person you are looking for, you will certainly find something interesting among these records!

These records are part of an ongoing project aiming to make the Middleport Pottery Collection more searchable and accessible. We are currently working hard to sort and index tens of thousands of documents of which these records are a small part. As more documents with a public interest are processed we hope to be able to offer researchers and the public more opportunities to engage with our collection.

By Car: Use postcode ST6 3PE to find us. There is FREE onsite parking at the side of the Burleigh Factory Shop and disabled parking by the side of Harper Street. Additional parking is also available on Travers Street By Bus: We are just a short walk from the nearest bus stop that is located on Newcastle Street. From Newcastle Street walk along Orme Street (located at the side of Steelite International) and you will see us behind the Steelite Car Park. By Train: Middleport Pottery is just a 15-minute walk from Longport station or a 60-minute walk along the canal towpath from Stoke-on-Trent station By Narrowboat: We are located on the banks of the Trent & Mersey Canal visitors who have travelled here by narrowboat can enjoy free daytime mooring during the course of their visit.

While we will try our best to help we cannot guarantee that we will have records of a specific person as part of this event, or in the collection as a whole. While we do hold the records for Burgess and Leigh predating 2001, these records are not all individually inventoried and in some cases may not be complete, or a particular record type may not have been created for each person.
