Tuesday 15th September, 13.00 - 14.30, A History of the Local Textile Mills, speaker Stuart Hartley. This focuses on the development of home-based weavers’ cottages making small amounts of textiles to a fully developed mill turning out massive amounts of textiles using examples from Dewsbury and Huddersfield.
Wednesday 16th September, 19.00 - 20.15, Yorkshire's Unsung Heroes and Heroines, speaker Catherine Taggart. Did you know that the youngest of only 4 women awarded the George Cross for heroism was from Yorkshire? No, not many people do. A talk about people from God's Own County who do not receive enough recognition for their achievements and/or inventions.
Friday 18th September, 10.30 – 12noon, The History of Mirfield - How Times Have Changed, speaker Frank Wright. A humorous talk about how family life, shopping and working practices have changed since the 1930s.
Friday 18th September, 14.00 – 16.00pm, Find Your Past, with expert Pat Smith. An introduction to researching your family history and an opportunity to get started using the free trials on ‘Find My Past’ or ‘Ancestry’ websites. Some useful takeaway resources.
Saturday 19th September, 10.00 – 12.30, Children's Lego Competition. Create a model with the theme - What my ancestors/family did for a living in the past. Prizes will be awarded to the best three. Organiser Julia Mitchell.
