Museum of Island History - free entry and history walk

The Museum of Island History, housed in Newport’s iconic Guildhall, welcomes visitors on Saturday 12th September (10am–1pm). Journey through the Island’s past, from prehistoric fossils to modern-day festivals, as part of a Newport-wide Heritage Day with special events going on around the town.

Members of the public are also invited to join a unique immersive walk celebrating the life and poetry of Charlotte Mew devised by StoneCrabs Theatre. A poet who is rarely celebrated, Mew will lead visitors around Newport, talk about her past on the Island and how it inspired her work. Told through her spirit, this moving performance will chart her ultimately tragic life and give her poetry the recognition it deserves. The walk begins at 11am at the Yellowfin Propeller (opposite Quay Arts) and concludes with a performance and visit to the Museum of Island History.
No booking needed for museum entry. Free tickets for the walk must be booked in advance.
