The Museum of Island History, housed in Newport’s iconic Guildhall, welcomes visitors on Thursday 18th September (10am–2pm). Journey through the Island’s past—from prehistoric fossils to modern-day festivals and don’t miss the new display of fascinating finds unearthed by the Vectis Searchers Metal Detecting Club.
Also on Thursday, members of the public are invited to join a unique immersive walk celebrating the life and poetry of Charlotte Mew. A poet who is rarely celebrated, Mew will lead visitors around Newport, talk about her past on the Island and how it inspired her work. Told through her spirit, this moving performance will chart her ultimately tragic life and give her poetry the recognition it deserves. Written by Katie Daysh and directed by Rebecca Tremain for StoneCrabs Theatre, the walk begins at 12pm at the Yellowfin Propeller (opposite Quay Arts) and concludes with a performance and visit to the Museum of Island History.
