National Trust Ormesby Hall
Ormesby Hall, Ladgate Lane, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, TS3 0SR
Today, you'll find a classic Georgian mansion with a listed stable block and two working model railway layouts, surrounded by 240 acres of parkland and farmland. The formal garden boasts colourful seasonal displays and established herbaceous borders, with a wildflower meadow, orchard and pond creating a green oasis. There is also a cafe and secondhand bookshop that can be accessed for free on the heritage open day dates listed.
This year Ormesby Hall celebrates the Pennyman family’s artistic legacy through an exciting collaboration with The Northern School of Art A-level students. The hall has become a temporary mini gallery, and you can expect to see a showcase in some of the rooms featuring photography, ceramics, textiles and painting. The first floor Secrets of the Collection exhibition showcases the Pennyman family’s connection to the arts and displays some of the art highlights from the Pennyman collection and the stories behind them.
The new for 2026 multi-user trail at Ormesby Hall is a free, accessible 3.1km (just under 2 miles) circular route around the wider estate. Perfect for walking, running, cycling or simply enjoying nature close to home. The trail offers a mix of woodland, parkland and open views, including a peaceful stretch through Pennyman Woods. It’s ideal for dog walks, family outings or a regular exercise route, with a smooth, all-weather surface designed to be easy to use all year round.

Due to Ormesby Hall's historic setting, there are many areas with uneven cobbles and gravel paths. If unfamiliar with the property, please contact a member of the team when planning your visit. The grounds are a mix of flat paved and gravel and grass paths through the grounds, with some steps and cobbles in the servant's courtyard. We have manual wheelchairs for hire, but we do not have mobility scooters for hire. Due to the narrow doorways inside the house, mobility scooters are not suitable - please ask for a manual wheelchair if needed. Ramped wheelchair access into the house.
