Take a gentle paced guided walk from Dover Priory train station looking at historic buildings and stopping to look at wild plants as we walk through Dover, towards the seafront and up the footpath and steps to the top of the White Cliffs of Dover.

We’ll follow public rights-of-way as we discover and talk about the natural wild plants of the downland and hear about their uses both for people and wildlife.

Hear about the formation of theChalk and flint rock, chalk downland and the wildlife that depends on this beautiful, biodiverse habitat; formation of the Channel, megafloods and the aspiring UNESCO Global Cross-Channel GeoPark. If weather is good wonder at the stunning sea views across to France!

Accessibility details

It’s quite a long walk with stops to look at interesting things (1 hour, outward) up to the White Cliffs National Trust site and (similar return) downhill to Dover following public footpaths. Wear clothing suitable for the weather forecast; Waterproof coat or sun hat, sun lotion, closed toed shoes or boots with good grip. Closed toes highly recommended due to brambles and prickly plants. Walking poles may be helpful. Recommend to bring a rucksack with plenty of drinking water and snacks.
