New Park Heritage Walk

Skipton Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 3HF

  • 13 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

This is a walk around the industrial and working-class suburb of New Park, Harrogate. It looks at the area as it is today and with photographs at how it was in the past. Hosted by Terry Williams, founder and energy behind New Park Heritage Centre.

New Park was developed as an industrial suburb to Harrogate, effectively an independent community, which grew along the main Skipton and Ripon Roads in the 1840s. It was the location of the town's gas and electricity works plus quarries and an industrial laundry. Workers' housing was built and the district had a pub, shops, chapels, a school and an institute - and railway.

Walk with local expert Terry Williams as your guide to see how New Park evolved and remains a thriving community.
