Newton Abbot Museum -Entertainment through the Ages in Newton Abbot- Tower Tour

Saturday 19th September St Leonard's Tower (aka the clock tower), 10am-1pm:

Newton Abbot has been a market town for many hundreds of years visited by all sorts of tradespeople from farmers to craftsmen, traders and entertainers. St Leonard's Tower was at the centre of the action and dates to the 1200s. Today the Tower is mostly known as the Clock Tower, as the clock part is all that remains of the former chapel.

Explore Newton Abbot's medieval tower as you immerse yourself in 800 years of history.

Keep an eye out for our costumed interpreter outside the tower and find out about entertainment in the Tudor age (they may move over to the museum depending on the weather).

We will be opening the doors and welcoming visitors in for a tour of the tower. There is also a video tour showing what it is like upstairs. Free entry!

The Clock Tower is in the middle of town opposite Austins toy shop. The nearest car park is Newfoundland Way. The museum will also be open and is just a short walk from the tower. Cross the road near Carpetright (be safe use the pedestrian crossing) and we are the big church shaped building on the corner. Tower Tour: The ground floor of the tower is accessible and there will be a video tour you can watch to see upstairs. Due to the nature of this ancient building, there is no wheelchair access to the upper floors. Under 5s are not permitted upstairs. The spiral staircase is narrow with steep steps so access to the upper floor is at your own risk and is unsuitable for those with mobility issues or claustrophobia.
