Newton St Cyres Parish Hall: The Centenary Celebration

Village halls are the hub of the village, and 100 years ago Newton St Cyres opened its door to the Parish Hall on 8th April 1926. The old Cider Barn was gifted to the village by Capt Noel Quicke, seen next to Mrs Constance Quicke in the centre of the above photograph. Come and meet members of the Quicke family of Devon, a family which goes back the 16th century, and learn of their farming, cider-making and internationally famous artisan cheese-making. It's a chance to taste, learn and celebrate the Centenary with us. And it is an occasion, too, for us to celebrate the special cider apple, the 'Ellis Bitter', bred when this was a cider-making village.

Enjoy the 'premier' of a new and specially created film using original black and white photographs from the period and featuring families and festivities. A fascinating dip into the past 100 years in our village.
And no Village Hall would be complete without a Devon Cream Tea using traditional old recipes for the scones! (Cream on first....)
