North Crawley Field Walk
Outside St Firmin's Church, High Street, North Crawley, Buckinghamshire, MK16 9LH
North and Little Crawley date from before 1086 and in Domesday book appear as Herulfmede. The countryside around is rolling, pretty, pleasantly wooded, and well served with long established rights of way used well by the public and in which landowners, Parish Council and the History Society show a keen interest. The walk chosen for HODs is just one of several which start near the Church (with a chancel dating from 1225 and steeped in history, including a fine medieval rood screen). We will briefly highlight the development of the tight ‘built’ area, housing, chapels, pubs, play areas, and community centre before heading into the countryside. We will cover just over 3 miles at a sensible pace, mostly on grass, and the commentary will cover the history of what we see, and the field names. Changes in farming practice over the centuries will be apparent as we progress, and there may be one or two visual surprises!

It is a walk on marked footpaths and generally good terrain which will be walked at least twice before the day to assess any potential health and safety risks. It is across fields so not accessible by wheelchairs. Access to toilets at end of walk. Dogs on leads welcome.
