Notable Sheffield Women Walk: From Anglican Priest to Lady Mayoress
Church Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 1HA
Who was the first female doctor, tram driver or politician in Sheffield?
The contribution of women to Sheffield history is often overlooked or forgotten.
This is the first of two city centre walks that tell stories of local women from the last quarter of the 18th century to the present day who contributed to women's more active and equal participation in Sheffield public life. The walks can be done separately, or together and in any order.
This first walk starts outside the Anglican Cathedral in Church Street and ends at Barkers Pool, a distance of about a mile. We walk along some city side streets which can be uneven and steep, so it could be difficult for people with mobility issues, although the route should be accessible to people in electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
Places are strictly limited to 16 and booking is essential
