Nothe Fort - a Victorian engineering masterpiece built as a coastal defence, which is now one of Dorset’s best loved heritage attractions.
Come and join our friendly and knowledgeable team of volunteers for a unique insight into how this much-loved Victorian fort was secretly utilised during the latter part of the Cold War.

Travel back in time to 1872 with Queen Victoria on the throne, as you witness the Artillery in their splendid uniforms and displays including musketry and cannon firing drills, with demonstrations taking place between 12pm and 3pm.
Explore the Caponier, which enabled the artillery to attack enemies using enfilading fire, defending the fort entrance and sally port. The structure has three tiers in total with musket slots plus gun ports for three 32-pound guns.
You can also experience our Water Tank jetty. This secret space was a vital part of the Fort’s original design, built to hold water during a siege.
