Nottingham Catholic Cathedral
The Cathedral Church of St Barnabas, North Circus Street, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG1 5AE
The cathedral will be open during its normal hours (0700-1900), subject to cathedral services and special events such as weddings and funerals. Leaflets will be available for those who wish to go round by themselves. On selected days (listed below) there will be guided tours and family workshops.
There will also be guided tours presenting the cathedral’s art and architecture, and in particular Restoring Pugin, the cathedral's ongoing project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project, now well on in its delivery phase is recreating the original decoration in the ambulatory and the three eastern chapels, begun under A.W.N. Pugin in the early 1840s and probably complete by the early 1850s.The project's conservators have discovered remarkable, beautiful schemes, hitherto almost entirely unknown, and there will be a lot of new work on view..
We hope that at least two of the three chapels will be open and that there will be a small exhibition in the crypt, not normally open to the public.
